Dwane Lewis was born to Dwane and Lorna Lewis on February 25th, 1956. Mr. Lewis has lived most of his life in Lawrence, Kansas. He has also lived in Los Angeles, and in Oakland, California for very brief periods of time. Mr. Lewis began his martial arts career in 1976 at Kansas University under his first teacher, James O. Lee Jr.
Mr. Lee was a former airborne ranger attending the university to get his law degree. While here Mr. Lee began Vanguard Karate Club and trained at the university. Class was held 5 days a week for an hour or more. Mr. Lewis attained his black belt after 5 years of study.
Mr Lewis now has associate black belts or sashes in more than one style of martial arts. He has an associate 3rd degree black belt under Master Sam Price of Hutchinson, Kansas. He also has an associate black belt under 6th Dan Steve Mackey in Bushidokan of Kansas City. There is also an associate 3rd degree black sash under Sigung Scott Winokur of Kansas City, Missouri. Mr. Lewis has had a career in full contact karate as well and obtained the world championship in the super-light heavy weight division In K.I.C.K. Mr. Lewis also teaches Tai Chi as part of his curriculum for he believes it is invaluable to promote health and harmony.
Next on Mr. Lewis' horizon is learning Jujitsu and he is presently training with Steve Crawford’s Jujitsu School of Kansas City, and also with Brad Jones of Kansas City as well.
Mr. Lewis has been and is one of the top point fighters in the country for the past 20 years.
Mr. Lewis admits his abilities are
directly attributed to God, his parents, and all the martial artists who have been
a part of his life.
Dwane Lewis has 28 Grand Champion trophies, 124 first place trophies, 24 second place trophies, 17 third place trophies, 2 fourth place trophies. Aside from mentioned above he has 7 first place medals (Gold) and 1 second place (Silver) medal from the Kansas State Games, one trophy for first place for the nationals held in Oklahoma as a brown belt, and title of The World Champion in 1991. |
